On 2nd October a gigantic protest is being held at Jantar Mantar in central Delhi against the Uttar Pradesh C.M Yogi Adityanath. A 19 year old girl was gang raped in Hathras but the government could not take this matter seriously. In this massive protest people are demanding justice for 19 year old girl and asking the CM of UP to resign. Initially, the gigantic protest was supposed to be held at India Gate but later it had shifted to Jantar Mantar in central Delhi owing to the prohibitory orders in place in the Rajpath area.
Several students, women, civil society activists joined the protest. Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad, Swara Bhaskar, Saurabh Bharadwaj, TMC leader Derek O’Brien also were in the protest. Delhi’s CM Arvind Kejriwal also took part in the protest and also said that, “We request to Uttar Pradesh govt with folded hands to dispense the harshest penalty – capital punishment at earliest. Some of them think that set out being made to cover-up. That is totally wrong. What happened is painful”. He also said that, “Heinous crime committed against victim. Now, they are saying rape didn’t happen. Then, the body was burnt against Hindu rituals. This makes it seem like a cover-up. The family who has suffered this want sympathy and our support. What is happening to them is not right – the behaviour being meted out to them. Leave them alone to meet whoever they want to. Whoever does politics over this is wrong. Why Rajasthan, UP? Why is it happening anywhere?. Rapes shouldn’t happen,”.
Supreme Court Advocate Prashant Bhushan said that, “What is happening in Uttar Pradesh is goondaraj. The police have surrounded the village, are not allowing opposition leaders and mediapersons to enter it. They have taken away the mobile phones of the family members of the victim.”
On 2 October, Some TMC leaders including Derek O’brien were reached Hathras in UP to meet the victim’s family but the UP police stopped them entering into the village. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were also detained on their way to Hathras.
